Wind forecasts are usually measured in
knots (kn), where
1 knot equals 1.852 km/h (1.15 mph).Nearly every kitesurfing weather app uses knots, so you'll quickly get used to thinking in them. However, wind speed alone doesn't tell the whole story. You should also consider:
- Average wind speed
- Wind gusts
- Wind direction
- Wind consistency
For example, 18 knots can provide perfect riding conditions if the wind is steady. The same average wind with gusts reaching 30 knots is a completely different situation and requires much more experience.
