Look Downwind
Imagine that something goes wrong while you're riding. You lose your board. You can't relaunch your kite. You activate your safety system.
Where will the wind take you?
This is one of the very first questions an independent rider asks.
If there's a long, open sandy beach downwind, the situation is much more likely to end safely. If there are rocks, piers, roads, trees, or other obstacles, the consequences can be much more serious.
Very often, what's downwind determines whether a spot is appropriate for your level.
