9. Riding a New Spot Without Assessing It First
Even experienced riders should take time to evaluate a new location before launching. Ask yourself:
- Where is the wind coming from?
- Where is the safest place to launch?
- Where will I drift if something goes wrong?
- Are there rocks, reefs, or other hazards?
- Where is the safest place to come ashore?
Spending just a few minutes answering these questions can prevent serious accidents.
